HISTORY

TSR was formed at the request of the Grande Prairie R.C.M.P. in the fall of 1995 because they recognized a need for SAR services. The R.C.M.P. then assembled a core group of volunteers to undertake the initiative. At this point TSR researched SAR standards both federally and provincially, conducted a membership drive, engaged in a vulnerability assessment of the local area and began a training process designed specifically to meet the requirements prescribed by SAR Alberta.

Through our established relationships with local emergency service organizations we have trained select individuals to enable us to support SAR operations in the areas of SAR Management, Swift Water Rescue, Surface Ice Rescue, High Angle Rescue and Crime Scene Management.

Through our own efforts and resources we have achieved the following:

Provide training to a bulk of the membership to the minimum of SAR Alberta standards
Established relationships with local businesses to support TSR in the involvement of SAR & training operations
Aquired various SAR equipment to provide the service
Provide education to various community groups

So far our training has enabled us to provide the community with essential services and education. These include the promotion of the "Lost in the Woods" program, first aid services at various community events, distribution of the "Trip Plan for Survival" and participation in various city of Grande Prairie events, while continuing to meet the needs for SAR services.
