VOLUNTEERS
ARE VITAL!
Search and Rescue (SAR) is the searching for or rescue of any person(s) who become(s) overdue, lost, injured, or stranded while in the out-of-doors, or as a result of a natural or human-caused disaster. Our tasking agency is the RCMP. We partner with our local Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) association for communications support.
Being a SAR volunteer means being ready and willing to respond to a missing person or rescue incident. |
| Committed: | Volunteers we can count on to respond when needed. |

| Competent: | Volunteers who are prepared to look after themselves, be safe, and will not become another subject for search or recovery (mental and physical fitness) |
|
| Honest & Accountable: | Volunteers who know their abilities and limitations, and feeling comfortable in saying "I am not trained or prepared to undertake this task you have assigned me"; providing a solid base of information that can be used to help make decisions. |

| Effective & Efficient: | Volunteers who are trained, prepared, and equipped to respond to ever changing conditions. |
| Board Members | Provide leadership, accountability & support to strengthen a vital community association. Must be a member of the association for one year before being elected to the Board, however, there are committee positions through which you can support the Board. | |
| Ground Searchers | Requires SAR Basics training (3-day course) & Standard First Aid. Will be actively involved in searches to sweep on foot, a designated search area (physical fitness required). Must provide your own personal clothing for appropriate weather conditions, equipment & supplies. | TRAINING IS PROVIDED AND ONGOING |
Public Education & Awareness |
Work to prevent the need for Search & Rescue, through education and community awareness, including the "Lost in the Woods" program for children and youth. | |
| Support Team Members | Are you able to provide support (food and other supplies) to help sustain search incidents? Site set-up requires some physical work. A valid drivers license is required and would be beneficial if you have access to your own vehicle. | |
| Office Support | Cataloguing community resources secured for assisting searches, and other light office duties. | |
Light Equipment |
Maintain & organize search equipment at our headquarters. Cleaning after & preparing for future searches. | |
| Web Master | Someone with technical ability to manage, update, and enhance our website on a regular basis. |
| Hasty Team: | Initial response team using ATV's, snowmobiles and other specialized equipment. | |
| Tracking Team: | Uses Universal Tracking System (3 levels of training required) | |
| Overhead Team: | Using the Incident Command System to coordinate and oversee search operations. This team consists of: | |
*Search Manager |
Works in conjunction with RCMP to manage the search. | |
*Scribe |
Carefully records events within a search. | |
*Safety Officer |
Ensures safety of the entire search operation. | |
Civil Emergency |
Helping with any civil emergency (floods, tornados, earthquakes, etc.) Requires CER training. | |
